Not a bad haul at all.

Saturday, 11 July.  A good day.  A very good day.

The day our bag packing slot at Sainsbury’s Linlithgow finally arrived.

I wrote to 13 supermarkets back in February and they were the only ones that had anything available in the whole of 2009.  This bag packing lark is popular.

And now I know why.

6 not terribly arduous hours work for a team of nine earned us the not inconsiderable sum of £875!

Big thanks to the Sainsbury’s management and staff who went out of their way to be friendly, helpful and super supportive.

Honourable mentions:

Scott, who went over and above the call of duty by not only loading an elderly lady’s bags into her trolley, but wheeling them out to the carpark and loading them into her boot.

Katie’s school buddy, Jo, who came to stay for the weekend and graciously gave up her Saturday so that, as Scott put it, “Katie’s dad could have a holiday.”

And Fraser, who schlepped through from the West to spend a glorious sunny day sweating under the harsh fluorescent lights of a busy supermarket.

Fraser. Cheap at half the price.

Fraser. Cheap at half the price.

4pm came round swiftly enough, though, and tired but satisfied we packed our jingling buckets into the back of the Previa and went home to count the spoils.

Took nearly as long as the bag pack itself!

After which there was just enough sunshine left for a barbie and a couple of cold ones.

A very good day indeed.
