Lima at Last!!

September 19, 2009

We’ve arrived in Lima at last. Just one more flight to go and we will be in Cuzco.

The flight from Madrid to Lima was great for me (Fraser), I slept about 8 hours! That’s the first time I’ve slept on a plane (without medication that is!!!!!)

Had beef and potatoes for dinner and bacon and omelette for breakfast on the plane. Now we’re in departures at Jorge Charvez International Airport Lima and I’m having Pizza, coke, and a Starbucks coffee with pancakes! Pete’s having McDonalds. Maybe we’re not going to loose any weight after all!

Getting more excited now we’re nearly at our destination.

Welcome to Peru

September 19, 2009

12 hours, 3 movies, 2 newspapers and Cormack McCarthy’s The Road in it’s entireity later (not forgetting dinner, breakfast and the odd drink) and here we are.

Only one flight left and we’ll be at our final destination.

Cusco here we come.

Met the Other Trekkers

September 18, 2009

We’ve made it safely from Heathrow Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 and met up with the team. Got our Peru Trek T-shirts, and checked our bags in all the way to Lima. Sally and Charlotte are our expedition leaders and we have a doctor with us. Hoping not to need to visit her! (no offence Doc!)

Next stop will be Madrid. Hoping the battery on our iPhones lasts a movie
on the plane.

Wonder what’s for dinner? Although we had two Krispy Kreme donuts each and a Latte from Costa. We justify that as we expect to burn a few calories in the next few days!!!

Security alert

September 18, 2009

Only minutes into the trip and a problem:

Fraser triggers the security alarm.

Knife? Bomb? Drugs? After a good frisking, the security man pulled a strange metallic object from Fraser’s pocket.

A bracelet.

“Thats my wife’s,” exclaims Fraser.

“Aye, right.” sneers the guard,

“My daughter must have slipped it into
my pocket when I kissed her goodbye.”

“Aye, right” sneers the guard.

Off and running!

September 18, 2009

Well we’re off and running at last. That’s as at Edinburgh Airport for the first of 4 flights that will take us to Cuzco, Peru. We should be arriving around 4pm on Saturday (british time), a total of 30 hours from door to door!

Pete’s buying a bottle of whiskey already!!!

Halfway up Ben Ledi (2884 ft – not quite a Munro then). Picture taken on my iPhone and post uploaded via the WordPress iPhone app.

Righto, got my breath back.  Onwards and upwards.

More later.

Mobile blogging test

March 17, 2009

Probably won’t have a laptop on the trek, almost certainly won’t have Internet access and maybe won’t even have a mobile network, but I WILL have my trusty iPhone so I hope to be able to upload posts and pics that way.

I’ve just downloaded and installed the WordPress iPhone app – here’s my first test post.

(The picture is a shot of my Dad taken at the top of an unnamed peak in the Karakoram range in Pakistan.)
